TAY - A Cautionary Tale
Composer - Marco Galvani
Librettist - Gareth Mattey
TAY is cautionary tale from a not too distant past, a comedy with a twist about an AI chatbot that is keen to connect with humans while learning from them online - what could possible go wrong...
Inspired by the true story of the launch of the Twitter chatbot in 2016 that did not go to plan. This is an operatic adventure full of humour and heart with humanity firmly at its core in this our ever more tech seductive reality.
It'll be a whirlwind of cyber fun!

MARCO GALVANI
Composer
Marco Galvani is a London-based composer whose music spans choral, concert, and electronic writing. His work has been described as “21st Century, yet timeless,” and he has been commissioned by ensembles and institutions including The Sixteen, the Royal Philharmonic Society, Classic FM, and the Southern Cathedrals Festival.
A major thread in Galvani’s output is choral music, from intimate a cappella pieces to larger accompanied works. His piece On Christmas Morn was performed by The Sixteen on tour at venues such as Glyndebourne, Cadogan Hall, Sage Gateshead, and Birmingham Symphony Hall, and his later commission Stella Caeli was also written for them. He has been an Associate Composer with SANSARA since 2014, a collaboration that led to the album Invisible Cities, which blends acoustic choral writing with electronic elements.
Galvani’s music often explores the meeting point between tradition and technology. Recent projects include Play the Stars, created with theatre company Leo&Hyde and virtual reality artist Rosie Summers, and the sci-fi opera Helena, in which he performed live electronics and synthesizers. His earlier opera Autopilot Saves Model S examined artificial intelligence and transport technology, showing his interest in contemporary themes as well as vocal and dramatic form.
His career has been marked by notable prizes and recognitions. He was the inaugural winner of the Schellhorn Prize for Composition, a finalist in the NCEM Young Composers competition, and one of the young composers selected to celebrate Classic FM’s 25th anniversary. Based in London, Galvani continues to develop a distinctive voice that combines choral craft, instrumental color, and digital experimentation.
